Here's some new stuff for ya...loads of things we've never played before, including Drug Squad, which is a group of the Pink Fairies' roadies who make even crazier proto punk than they did! A few 'horror' tracks in preparation for the obligatory Halloween show, which you will hear next week.

Society's Fault 10-11-13
More of that Societal goodness for ya. If you're a Velvet Underground fan, I'm sorry to say we take them down a few pegs in this episode....we trash-talk Lou Reed for a bit, then play some of his pre-Velvet tracks. If you've never heard his awful surf-rock band The Beachnuts, you're in for a 'treat.' Also, who knew he used to be able to sing?!

Obscuro! Mixtape #22 - 'Jim Shepard'
This one's been a long time in the works...unfortunately, Mr. Shepard's discography is so weird and scattered that it's taken me this long just to obtain half of it. It's also all so great that it's hard to pick favorites. Hopefully, this is a good representation of the man's work...the weirdo experimentation, would-be pop classics, and angry-ass punk. I'm not the biggest fan of his droning experimental releases (except 'Picking Through the Wreckage,' which is fantastic) but I still tried not to lean too heavy on the 'poppy' stuff.
If you're not familiar, Shepard was an underground musician from Columbus, OH who just did his own thing for years and years, starting in the 70's. The name changed from Vertical Slit to V-3 but the sound remained similar. Basically, he's like everything Kurt Cobain wasn't. Sure, Cobain always railed against the music industry and fame, but he didn't shun it. Shepard did stuff like release 10 copies of an album and distribute them at pawn shops knowing the 'right' people would find them. His career reads like a fictional story, and that's exactly what he wanted. Unfortunately, he hung himself in '98, leaving people like me to piece together his legacy from obscure mp3-rips and long-disappeared private-press albums. I even made a pilgrimage to his hometown a year back, and managed to find a copy of the 'Voices of Men' single.
So, this is pretty much my favorite rock dude here. Really, do some research for yourself and see if you aren't intrigued. For now, here's a too-brief collection of some of my favorite recordings he did. Don't worry, it'll all fit on one CD-R. It's a Mixcloud podcast so you CAN'T skip tracks.

'Former Fetus - A Rock Opera'
More downloadable weirdness for ya....
...By the way...at least some of the older links should work now...made my Rapidshare stuff public again since those dick-biters made it private. New links will be 4shared, which seems to be the best free file-sharing site out there now...ya might have to make an account, but it's worth it.
On to today's release:
I can't find any info on this whatsoever. Sorry. I must've found it from somebody's music blog years back, because I have it, and it exists, but beyond that, I have no idea. I remember the description on whatever site I got it from called it 'Neil Young meets hardcore,' which is semi-accurate...it's got some country-rock twang, and it's definitely punk rock, but that leaves out the glaring fact that it's a religious rock opera against abortion, probably made by one guy, which puts it squarely in the realm of OUTSIDER MUSIC, which I know is why y'all come here.
I think this came out sometime in the mid-90's...96 maybe? Sounds like these guys/guy listened to a LOT of Minutemen/Meat Puppets/Husker Du 80's psych-punk stuff. The singing especially sounds like Husker Du, and the concept lyrics remind me of 'Zen Arcade' a bit, but there's definitely something off here....I mean, generally speaking, most punks AREN'T pro-lifers, but the lyrics are so so so angry, it's almost ridiculous.
Anyhow. Give it a shot. It's a very creative, sloppy, inventive punk record if nothing else.

Apparently a treasure trove of no-budget 80's trash films, which is something I am quite fond of. If you thought 'Street Trash' or 'Slime City' were too high-budget, check out some of these flicks. I already know I'm going to be wasting a fair amount of time looking these releases up.

No rules - punk rock
So, I made a Rate Your Music account, and started putting together some lists. I figured since I've got all this crazy music, I might as well share it with others.
This particular list is exactly the same as the one I created on Rate Your Music.
To preface, these are some of (what I think are) the most forward-thinking albums of the original punk rock era. Real experimentation, real dudes, really new ideas. These also happen to be some of my favorite albums...not just in the punk-rock spectrum of music.
