This came out last week. It's pretty nuts. Guest spots include MC Trachiotomy, Finnish hip-hopper Tuuttimorko, and UK rapper holy BLASKO.
DTP has officially added Ohio weirdo-rapper Boy Froot, so he's on most of the tracks in addition to the other two rappers. Tracks range from trap, lo-fi, boom-bap, to pretty experimental stuff.
It's free, too.

Depressive Tongue Posse - 'Midwest Murdererz' EP
Dropped today.
It's a tribute to old school, murked out Memphis rap, so if you're into that, check it out. They've even got it on a white-label cassette with no case. REALLY lo-fi and evil, and features the newest member of DTP (Boy Froot) fairly prominently.
Get it for free, or get the tape:

MC Trachiotomy - '...w/Love from Tahiti'
This might be the most insane rap album you ever hear. I'm using the term 'rap' very loosely as well, by the way...there isn't much here that resembles traditional rapping, sampling, or even music.
So, let me at least TRY to describe it in terms that Trach would likely appreciate. Imagine one of those old, cassette-dubbed rap albums that sounds like garbage, and was put together by people who didn't know what they were doing. Samples are chopped up incorrectly, don't line up on time, and the beats are mixed all wack. Then, imagine that the guy doing all this mixed a little too much LSD in with his regular cough syrup and weed, causing him to spit 'verses' that are almost anti-rap. Sometimes he's just grunting, sometimes he's 'crooning' on beat, and every once in a while he spits some fire, but it's almost always buried in distortion and his heavy New Orleans accent.
That should give you some semblance of the tuneage here. It's literally like nothing else. And, considering the dude is a surrealist prankster who has some connection to the Butthole Surfers, it's pretty obvious that this is all intentional.
Some of it is genuinely creepy, while other stuff will just boggle your mind (i.e. a deranged race car sketch set to a lurching sample.) And, of course, some of it is just dope, head-nodding Nawlins rap. DEFINITELY check this stuff out if you thought rap only started getting weird in the last few years.

Skatervader - 'C.U.N.T. in the Basement' EP
OOkaayyy, I'm finally digging into the Obscuro! archives to bring you new shit. When I started the blog (a looonnng time ago, apparently) I was getting a lot of random stuff off other blogs, so I didn't re-post other peoples' uploads out of respect. Now, however, most of these source sites are long gone, and so is a lot of this music. So, I'm gonna share some, because why not?
First up is this demented little rap EP from a couple years ago. I don't know much about this guy, except that he has some sort of affiliation with sometimes-Raider Klan oddballs Metro Zu. I DO know that this release SCREAMS 'new hip hop.' For one thing, it's directly influenced by Death Grips (who I can take or leave) and even includes a quote in one song. But, don't worry, it doesn't really sound like them too much other than being loud. It's more like if some teenager tried to recreate the Grips' atmosphere with some shitty freeware beat making program, which is probably exactly what it is. Maybe even a next-generation version of the stuff Death Comet Crew were doing in the 80's. I dunno, it's interesting though, and the rapper ain't all that bad. For what it's worth, I like it a good deal more than Death Grips.

Boy Froot - 'Bitch Shift' Mixtape
You might remember a demented rap mixtape I posted a while back by a producer/rapper out of Cincinnati called Boy Froot. It kinda reminded me of the Residents doing a Lil Ugly Mane album, and had like a million tracks on it. Well, he's back with an even better release that has even fuckin' more tracks. It's called 'Bitch Shift,' and features a lot more collaborations, including Depressive Tongue Posse, Hexxxoffndr, Secret Provider and a bunch of tracks with Keiki, his frequent partner in rhyme.
Coming off like a tribute to 'Paul's Boutique' made by aliens, the mixtape bridges the gap between wonky experimental hip hop, Memphis lo-fi murder rap and old school Beasties-esque 'sampleadelia.' With most of the songs having minute-and-a-half lengths, and all of the production being handled by Froot himself, it feels like an album that's been shattered and put back together completely wrong (in a good way.) Tracks blend into one another, stop at random, and morph into completely different ideas.
While 'Looters' featured barely-discernible slimy raps pitch shifted into oblivion, the vocals on this one are a little cleaner, which brings some of Boy Froot's humorous lines to the forefront. Where else are you gonna hear a guy brag about 'making you his pet' and never taking you to the vet?
The structure is also interesting, in that it moves from the deranged Residents-hop of 'Looters' to a more listener-friendly vibe by the end of the album. Who could anticipate from the borderline-noise opening tracks that the record would close with something that sounds almost like golden-era Cypress Hill? Collab tracks like 'Killin' Spree' (with DTP) and What's the Word (with Hexxxoffndr) dive full-on into old school Beastie Boys with a frenzy of samples, but elsewhere you'd be hard-pressed to find any comparison to this stuff.
Anyhow. It's good, basically. Really good. And right now, it's free on his Bandcamp page, so GEIT DAT SHITZ.

Yo. DTP did a collab recently with a Belgian producer named DJ El G and dirty-south masta SortaHuman. Evil Memphis-style shit. Get the 'Lost Thing' mixtape for free from DatPiff. Check the Posse-produced cut 'Swirlz' and Posse rappers Sharxx and Aggressive Professor on the track 'Glock In,' produced by DJ El G. Seems like the Posse should have another mixtape on the way soon...

Boy Froot - 'Looters Mixtape'
Dunno much about this, but it's definitely the weirdest stuff I've heard in a while. Kinda reminds me of Lil Ugly Mane but much more fractured and experimental. The beats are a little like Flying Lotus or maybe more accurately the Captain Murphy album, but once again, much more out-there. You can barely understand a goddamn word cuz homeboy puts so many effects on his voice, but it's more about the mood than anything. I'm diggin it for sure...might not be somethin' you drive around bumpin', but it's some late night creep shit I think yall will dig. He's also got some...'music videos.'...I mean, I guess that's what they are.

Obscuro! Mixtape #17...'Garbage can full of funk 3 - slow ride'
Third edition of this particular mixtape series....yes, it's lots of Memphis stuff and old school jams, but the mood is slightly different. This compilation is specially designed for getting high and driving around in the summer, because that's obviously what you should be doing in summer. My favorite slowed-down, pimped-out smokin' cuts. Nothing too dark, nothing too angry, just chilled-out gangster vibes. Enjoy.

Reader submission: Faggot aka Rap Game Bobby Hill
I only get reader submissions very occasionally, which kinda suxxxx. I like hearing new stuff. What the fuck guys? whimperwarrior@gmail.com
Judging by the content I post about, you can probably guess that the things people send my way are often bizarre. Fine by me. Today's is no exception.
Here's the bio I was sent:
Judging by the content I post about, you can probably guess that the things people send my way are often bizarre. Fine by me. Today's is no exception.
Here's the bio I was sent:
"For fans of Earl Sweatshirt, Kitty Pryde, Kreayshawn, Riff Raff, Lil' B, Das Racist, & Trinidad James,"Faggot" the "deceased' teenage Houston based rapper otherwise known as "rap game Bobby Hill" of the alternative hip-hop outlet Finnigan's Baked surfaces with his second posthumous mixtape after the 16 year old child prodigy tragically committed suicide on December 21st, 2012. Supreme glacial lyrics of albino thuggery pumping swag over experimental beats handled by really gifted foreign people."
Mind you, I have no idea how much of that is true. I do love the idea of 'rap game Bobby Hill.' I'm going to assume 16 is probably the correct age of this dude. Most of the mixtape/album covers feature false quotes attributed to people like Earl Sweatshirt, Lil B, Yelawolf, etc. Although, once again, who knows, maybe there's a legit quote in there somewhere.
Anyhow, this is some angry, shit-talkin' rap music. Faggot hates pretty much everybody putting out music currently, and he's perfectly happy to throw all amounts of ridiculous lines at them. You also get him pretending to be Mickey Mouse and rapping about smoking weed, doing fake 'guest spots' as rappers like Danny Brown, bragging about killing Kurt Cobain, and plenty of stoned prank calls. Yeah, it fits right in here pretty much.
I dunno if he makes the beats (the 'foreign people' thing would lead me to believe not) but if he did, props because most of 'em are pretty pleasing to the ear.
If the Odd Future stuff makes ya cringe, you probably wanna steer clear of this...it's that on steroids and crack. Why do I bother searching for music when people are waiting to send me wild shit like this?
Dude sent me a couple mixtapes, and they're both here for free:

Here's a lost classic from the third-wave ska era...if there is such a thing. I first heard Missing Link on one of those JetSet mp3 compilations that came with various magazines in the 90's. A few years later, I finally located a copy of their sole release in a cutout bin. Why these guys never made it to the level of a Mighty Mighty Bosstones is beyond me. As far as I know, this is the only group aside from Sublime that successfully mixed hip hop and ska. I dunno why more groups didn't try a style like this...it seems obvious to me. However, whereas Sublime was a complex musical stew, this release is pretty much just third wave ska with turntables and a bunch of rappers.
The rappers are your average rapid-fire white boys, and the music is kinda generic, but the overall effect is a whole lot of fun. If you have any interest in ska, you'll probably dig this. Holds up a lot better than most other mid-90's ska releases.

Rap is gettin' fucked up
So yeah, there's some pretty interesting hip hop stuff coming out these days. Here's some of the stuff I've heard recently thanks to the internet and WIDR. It kinda feels like it's '91 with the alt-rock boom, except even weirder. I've been tellin' folks who aren't into rap for years that it'll have the same arc rock music has had...basically if you think that rock and roll started in the 50's, it was reaching its popular creative peak about 20 years later with 'album rock' and concept albums and the like, then all the heady creative stuff went underground for a while until the late 80's/early 90's when 'regular' music listeners were ready for a different sound.
Now look at rap/hip hop. It became a real genre about 30 years after rock and roll, with Sugarhill records in the late 70's/early 80's. So, the creative peak of popular shit should be about 20 years later. Right, you've got your OutKast once they dropped 'Aquemini,' Fugees, Wu Tang, etc. And we can't forget rap's '60's' period which laid the blueprint for all this shit...In rap's case, it'd be the early 90's, with Cypress, Beastie Boys in their slacker phase, KRS-One, Nas, what have you.
So 'regular' radio-hip-hop-listeners are probably ready for something different, if we consider the 00's to be rap music's lame 80's bullshit period. I mean, the stuff I heard coming out of cars and parties in those years was fucking really bad. Auto-tune is the gated reverb of modern day.
But it had to end sometime, just like nobody wanted to hear A Flock of Seagulls or Def Leppard in the 90's. That's what all this shit is...the backlash of years of shitty music being crammed down peoples' throats. And the best part is, most of these new fuckers are giving their stuff away for free.
ODD FUTURE
I'm not even gonna front. I love these guys. They can really do no wrong at this point. Tyler's 'Goblin' album was the shit, the TV show is hilarious, and the new OF Tape is their best work yet. Who cares if they're not self-aware, which is what all the indie folks want? So they don't like Antipop Consortium or Kool Keith. I think it's better they remain un-influenced by anyone. It's like the whole Nirvana 'fuck you, we just wanna write songs like the Beatles' thing. They just wanna rock out to some mid-period Eminem and do their own thing. Having listened to pretty much everything this crew has put out, here's my take on it:
Tyler, The Creator
The most visible member of the crew, but not necessarily my favorite. Tyler says it best in the opening track of 'Goblin'--he's not really a great rapper, but on the whole, he's pretty fucking cool. 'Goblin' was a terrific album, and 'Bastard' was really good, too. The most memorable cuts come from his releases, like 'AssMilk,' 'Yonkers,' 'Radicals' and 'Burger.' Honestly, what got me was how many times this kid says 'faggot' on record. Reminded me of the old days when Eminem actually scared people. What's scarier than some deep-voiced, possibly psychotic black kid calling you a fag and threatening to rape you?
Hodgy Beats/LeftBrain/MellowHype
Hodgy didn't really catch my ear til the new OF Tape, on which he totally steals the show. The 2nd MellowHype album is really cool if only because of LeftBrain's awesome production, which is totally fucking nuts. Some of his beats don't even line up properly and have this lopsided fucked feeling to them. Hodgy's solo output didn't do it for me, but he's definitely the most improved member of the crew.
Domo Genesis
I really liked 'Rolling Papers.' Real laid back shit, some of the best OF productions. Plus, 'Grocery Store' is probably my favorite OF track. Domo gets shit for not being as interesting as the other fellas, but I think his more toned-down approach is easy on the ears.
Earl Sweatshirt
The youngest and most talented OF member. His disc 'Earl' is hands-down my favorite to come out of this group. Mind-blowingly offensive, but the 'Oldie' track on OF Tape Vol. 2 proves that he can bring the skills even without being gratuitously shocking. I'm excited for his new stuff to come out.
Syd tha Kyd/Matt Martians
I'm not really into The Internet, which is this girl/guy's project, but it's definitely different. Really laid back electro-pop. A lot better than other shit like this that's coming out.
Frank Ocean
I haven't checked out too much of his solo stuff because I'm not into R and B, but his track 'Pyramids' is pretty goddamn creative for 'mainstream' sounding stuff. Plus, he always brings good choruses to OF tracks.
Then you've got all the members who only really appear on compilation mixtapes...Taco and Jasper are both funny, while not incredibly great rappers. I haven't heard any of Mike G's solo stuff, but his verses on OF tapes are some of my favorites.
THE RAIDER KLAN
These are a bunch of southern kids putting out mixtapes that are directly influenced by the syrup-soaked sound of early 90's southern rap like Three 6 Mafia. I got into that shit a few years back thanks to Twankle and Glisten, and they're pulling it off how it should be done. First of all, there aren't many 'legit' hip hoppers who have a real sense of history, so this is pretty cool. Plus, whereas the originals did lo-fi because they had to, these kids do lo-fi to get a specific sound. To me, that's the exact same thing as Guided By Voices trying to make albums like Beatles bootlegs.
SpaceGhostPurrp
His new album just came out on 4AD, which is kinda weird. I really like his beats...they're creepy and slurry and atmospheric. DJ Paul would be/probably is proud. His rhymes are so-so, REALLY sex-obsessed, which doesn't do it for me, but when he's on point he's great. 'Git Ya Head Bust' is one of the coolest jams to come out. Like Tyler, it's more about the whole thing than just his raps or his beats.
Metro Zu
These guys didn't really do it for me. Too sex-heavy, and the beats are too mainstream.
Lil Ugly Mane
What the hell is this dude? I think (?) he's a white guy, and he comes off like some ghetto Leatherface, using the absolute creepiest beats this crew has to offer. He's a pretty good rapper, having mastered the southern 'triplet'-style verse, and he's clever as hell. 'Mista Thug Isolation' is a solid release.
Denzel Curry
I'm feelin' this guy's stuff. His production is a little more dreamy than SpaceGhost's, and his rhymes aren't quite as sex-obsessed. The mixtapes he's put out are definitely the most 'dirty south' sounding stuff.
Dunno much about the other stuff they're putting out, but it's probably quality. Except A$AP Rocky...didn't get into it...I got more respect for the guys who produce AND rap...Clams Casino's beats are pretty legit, though.
SHABAZZ PALACES
This stuff is pretty weird. Kinda like a slowed-down Antipop Consortium, only this is a comparison they probably wouldn't get pissed at. More 'underground' minded than the previously mentioned stuff. They're signed to SubPop, so that's cool, right? Plus, they got a dude from Digable Planets to work with them.
DANNY BROWN
Straight outta Detroit, land of horrorcore, comes this fucked up fella. A fellow WIDRite put together a mix of his songs, telling me that his albums don't hold up so well, but individual tracks are cool. I don't know, as I've still been digesting his CD, and haven't checked out full-lengths yet. The beats aren't really anything all that new, but his rhymes are refreshingly weird.
CURREN$Y
This guy was either a No Limit Soldier or a Cash Money Millionaire in the late 90's. Don't care enough to look up which it was. What's important is that now he's doing some really cool shit. This is a little too laid back for some people, but for a dopesmoker like me, it's perfect. Just commercial enough to turn some heads, but the beats he's using are really interesting, and he's developed a rhyme cadence that's half dirty-south, half New York in the early 90's. A really cool mix of flavors. 'Pilot Talk' I and II and 'Weekend at Burnie's' are both really solid...didn't like his recent release 'Stoned Immaculate' as much.
DAS RACIST
These guys are hilarious. I remember hearing the Pizza Hut/Taco Bell song from a friend a few years back, and thought it was stupid, but they've since proved themselves to be terrific and original MCs. I tried to hate 'Relax' because it's so big-budget sounding, but it's just too awesome.
LIL B
This guy seems like he took way too much ecstacy. Kinda like he wants to love/sleep with everyone. Not as into it as some of this other stuff, but the 6Kiss mixtape was really cool. His newest 'real' release, 'I'm Gay,' has its moments, but he suffers from the 'not a producer/not the best rapper' thing. I do think his best work is worth checking out, though. The new-age stuff where he's freestyling over ambient background music is really really weird.
DEATH GRIPS
This is the drummer from Hella, who is absolutely nuts, with a loud, foul-mouthed rapper who looks like Kimbo Slice. The beats sample everything from Jane's Addiction to Black Flag, to Link Wray's 'Rumble.' It's like punk-rap...kinda...I dunno...whatever it is, it's cool, although 'Ex-Military' is wayyyyy better than their new release 'The Money Store.' New one sounds like they toned it down a bit and didn't use any samples either. Oh well, one amazing album is more than most artists drop these days.
So, all that, coupled with mainstream cats like Lil Wayne and Wiz Khalifa (who I don't really like, but appreciate what they bring to music) taking their cues from the underground, makes this a pretty exciting time for pop music.
I'm not posting any links because if you just do a little browsing, you should be able to find most of this stuff for free from the artists themselves.

Weirdos of old school rap, vol. 2
....a continuation of last week's post...more off-beat music from the so-called 'golden age' of rap music. A few of these extend into the mid-90's, but I guess that stuff is probably old school by now.
Dunno much about Orko the Sycotik Alien, or his 1996 album 'Crop Formations,' but it's weird stuff for sure. Apparently released on cassette originally, which would explain the track 'Put it On Cassette.' I played a few cuts off this disc on Obscuro, and now here it is in its entirety.
Tracklist:
1. Quantum Leap
2. Crop Formations Intro
3. Tel Lie Vision
4. Rhyme Rate
5. Scared of Revolution
6. Put it On Cassette
7. Crop Formations
8. War of the Worlds
9. Mouth of Madness
10. The Contract
11. Nomad in My Mind
12. Shroomen in the Grandcanyon
Woops, left my clean edits in there. Oh well, you get radio-friendly versions of 'Put it On Cassette' and 'Mouth of Madness.'

This isn't the full 1994 'Trailer Park Hip Hop' EP by Hip Club Groove, but it's what I have. This is the group that featured a pre-'Trailer Park Boys'-fame Corey Bowles (aka the Corey in Corey and Trevor.) Basically, it's what you'd expect...kind of like a Canadian Bloodhound Gang with funkier beats. Not sure if he appears on here, but the actor who played J-Roc was in the video for one of these songs, too.
Tracklist:
1. Trailer Park Intro (Missing)
2. Rugged Operator
3. Bay Oh Fun-Day
4. Shootin' the Gift
5. Shure Shots (Missing)
6. Trip to Reality
7. Phat Mad Flow (Missing)
8. Jizz (ft. Stinkin' Rich aka Buck 65)
9. Kick 'Em in the Face/Outro

Lastly for today, here is my favorite Esham record. 1993's 'KKKill The Fetus.' Esham was just 19 or something when it came out. You can say what you want about Juggalos and ICP, but Esham is just makes fucking crazy music. He's undeniably talented, and totally hardcore. I helped do sound for him in Kzoo a while back, and someone got stabbed. Rough crowd. Anyhow, this stuff is raw and just as funny/evil as most of the OFWGKTA stuff.
Tracklist:
1. What is Evil?
2. Symptoms
3. Runnin' from Me
4. Voices in My Head
5. No Singing/Misery
6. Jackie
7. Game of Death (ft. Natas)

Weirdos of old school rap, vol. 1
It's been a few weeks...
Recently, I've been listening to a lot of rap and hip hop. A lot of older stuff, because beats were better when sampling was more prominent, and that's all there is to it. If a newer track uses a sample, it's almost always a really simple one, utilized in an unoriginal fashion. That's not to say there's not good new shit out there, but whatever, there's enough people posting that kinda shit, so here's the old school:
First up, this weird-ass record from the Goats. These guys were active in the early '90's and often drew comparisons to the Beastie Boys, which I don't see. To me, it's kinda like other 'alt-rap' stuff like Cypress Hill, Tribe Called Quest, or maybe Del tha Funkee Homosapien, but a little weirder. This is like some kind of political concept album, but the dudes were too high to really make it work, so it's just a really weird collage. Definitely worth the listen, because of bangin' tracks like 'Got Kinda Hi.' Check it.
Tracklist:
1. We Got Freaks
2. Typical American
3. Hangerhead is Born
4. Watcha Got is Watcha Gettin'
5. Columbus' Boat Ride

Alright, next up are Cypress Hill affiliates FunkDoobiest. This is their debut album 'Which Doobie U B?' It's very much in line with the Hill's early discs and the first 2 House of Pain albums. If you know HOP, you've heard Son Doobie on 'House of the Rising Son.' These guys like weed. A lot. I'm sure you can tell that from the tracklist. Dunno much about this one, except that DJ Muggs produced it, so you know it rules right away. I've also heard a lot of other rappers (from Eminem to Ice Çube) name-check Son for how much porno he has, so maybe there's something to that...also, not sure, but I think these guys beat Snoop Dogg to the 'bow wow wow yippy yo yippy yay' thing...
Tracklist:
1. The Funkiest
2. Bow Wow Wow
3. Freak Mode
4. I'm Shittin' on 'Em
5. Who's the Doobiest
6. Doobie to the Head
7. Where's it At
8. Wopbabalubop
9. The Porno King
10. Uh C'Mon Yeah
11. Here I Am
12. Funk's On Me

Last up, I gotta post something Beastie-related, due to MCA's tragic passing. This is a total bummer to me, as he's always been my favorite, and Beastie Boys was one of the few groups I really wanted to see live before I die. So, on that note, here's DJ Hurricane's debut solo record, 'The Hurra.' This dude was the DJ from 'Paul's Boutique' (the tour, not the record) to 'Ill Communication,' my favorite Beastie era. Apparently, he also rocks the mic pretty hard. This is also kinda like Cypress Hill (Sen Dog guests,) but with lots more live instrumentation, courtesy of longtime Beastie collaborators Mark Nishita and Mario Caldato, Jr. (who produced a bunch of the tracks on here.) What's more, the Beasties themselves turn up on two cuts ('Four Fly Guys' and 'Stick 'Em Up') and say some hilarious shit ('Cocaine crew say 'blowwwwww!'.) Good stuff. Dig it.
Tracklist:
1. Now You Do
2. Elbow Room
3. Four Fly Guys (ft. Beastie Boys)
4. Can We All Get Along
5. Feel the Blast (ft. Sen Dog)
6. Pass Me the Gun
7. The Hurra
8. Where's My Niggaz At
9. What's Really Going On (ft. L.O. and MC Breed)
10. Comin' Off (ft. L.O. and Tye Bud)
11. Get Blind
12. Pat Your Foot
13. Stick 'Em Up (ft. Beastie Boys)

There. Hopefully that makes up for the weeks of absence. Enjoy.
6. R U Down with Da Goats?
7. Cumin' in Ya Ear
8. Noriega's Coke Stand
9. Got Kinda Hi
10. Unodostressquattro
11. Georgie Bush Kids
12. Wrong Pot 2 Piss In
