Here are a few more of these oddball metal releases I've collected over the years...
First, two non-classics from the Metal Enterprises label. See this post and this post for more info on that fiasco...
Kalaschnikov, like the other artists in the ME stable, probably just wanted distribution for their mediocre album ('The Torture Never Stops') but got ripped off like so many others when the label did a fake 'follow up' record with their own in-house musicians/producers. Unlike the other groups (such as Killer Fox, whose original recordings were just unlistenable garbage) Kalaschnikov's sound was at least weird on its own.
The whole album kinda feels like it was written in a day, including the lyrics, which are so over-the-top 'evil' you have to hear them to believe them. It's like somebody told the vocalist to just sing about stuff that was the opposite of the Bible, so you get classics like 'Kill Your Neighbor' and 'Devil's Your Hero.' Despite the crappy production, it's a pretty good time, and you can't really hate songs like 'Rockin' By the Graveyard' and 'Video Monsters.' The lack of musicianship also seems to have resulted in some unusual guitar riffs in a kind of Voivod-ish way.
So, then, enter the ME staff's version of Kalaschnikov, present on their second (and final) album 'Desert Storm.' It sounds like they weren't even trying on this one. Two long tracks of obvious space-filling 'ambient' stuff, a few songs that sound a little too musically competent to be the ME staff...my guess is that they got hold of some Kalaschnikov demos for a second album, and dubbed their own awful vocals over. Then there are a handful that are obviously the same people responsible for the second Killer Fox and Thrash Queen albums. The ridiculous female operatic vocals and the snarly cartoonish male vocals, bad drum machines and totally non-metal guitar tones. Oh yeah, and whistling solos.
Yeah. Fucking whistling solos on what is essentially a thrash metal song ('Czarewitch').
Well...basically, if you're for some reason collecting all the Metal Enterprises releases, these will be of use to you. Otherwise, probably not? Oh well, the first album is enjoyably funny at least.
Kalaschnikov - 'The Torture Never Stops'
Tracklist:
1. Devil's Your Hero
2. The Haunted House
3. Rockin' By the Graveyard
4. Kill Your Neighbor
5. Chosen One
6. Demon's Rebellion (Instrumental)
7. Video Monsters
8. Hell's Runnin' Wild
9. Demon's Rebellion (Vocal)
DL
Kalaschnikov - 'Desert Storm'
Tracklist:
1. Czarewitch
2. Siberian Werewolf
3. Homage to the Holocaust
4. Headbanger
5. Stinking Shrine
6. Scull Scratcher
DL
Lastly, here's a release that might not be EXACTLY metal, but it definitely has metal influences (mostly from the doom genre) and it's certainly fucked up. While there are quite a few bands calling themselves Warning, this is the 1982 release by the German synth-doom group. Actually, the vocals here wouldn't sound too out of place on a Metal Enterprises release...they're like...death metal growls? I guess? But put through all sorts of effects to make it sound like aliens. The music is literally a head-on collision between OG doom metal (think Sabbath and Witchfinder General) and euro-disco synth stuff.
It's pretty goofy, but it's also very enjoyable, and occasionally really creepy. One review compares them to Rammstein, and I guess that's not far off, but WAY WAY more 80's than that description lets on. It really does sound like Kraftwerk playing satanic metal before that kind of metal even existed. If you read this blog, you'll like it I'm sure.
Warning - S/T
Tracklist:
1. Why Can the Bodies Fly
2. Magic Castle
3. Wild Roses for the Exit
4. Darkness
5. Out of Tune
6. The Door (Pt. I)
7. The Door (Pt. II)
8. A Message
9. Warning
10. Lost in Time
11. In the Crowd

2 classics of 'incredibly strange metal'
Here are a couple relics from my days as a metal radio guy. Hopefully I will put some other stuff like this up here in the near future.
First up, an experimental death metal band from Italy called Trifixion. Apparently they only put out this one album, in 1995, although there is at least one other band with the same name.
It's way more varied than pretty much any other death metal release out there...atmospheric keyboard passages lead to psych-rock jams, which lead to trebly black metal guitar and psychotic screaming. I'm not really sure what kind of audience these guys were going for, and maybe that's why they only did one album.
I guess some of the experimentation could be called similar to Voivod (my favorite metal band) but basically if those guys were death/black metal instead of thrash. It isn't particularly well-recorded, but all the musicians are super-talented so you never really notice. The artwork is fairly creepy, too. Probably more out there than most experimental metal fans can tolerate, but outsider/weirdo music appreciators will dig this.
Trifixion - 'Abschurfungepoch'
Tracklist:
1. Fear, Is All That I See
2. Col Heaven
3. Litanie
4. World Called Truth
5. Immortal
6. You Breed
7. Abschurfungepoch
DL
Next is a release that isn't nearly as challenging or intelligent. Actually, it's not intelligent at ALL. You may remember me posting about Killer Fox and the awful Metal Enterprises label. Click that link, please, so I don't have to recap.
This is another outing from the producers of the second Killer Fox album, and it's just as awful, if not more so. There are some very distinct (and completely out-of-place) reggae influences, and it also has the WORST Beatles cover I've ever heard. The female vocalist who is present on the Thrash Queen album is on this quite a bit. Also, it seems like they included some demos by the original Godzilla band, as if the album wasn't inconsistent enough already. Just terrible, stupid, and entertaining.
Godzilla - 'II'
Tracklist:
1. Ingoz
2. Helter Skelter
3. Ass of the Prophet
4. I Followed the Zombie
5. Cinderella Rockefella
6. Halfbreed
7. Killing Joke
8. Foul
9. Outgoz

Svaty Vincent - S/T
More 'outsider' metal for y'all....Don't know much about this guy, other than he's from Russia and he's really angry. Most of the lyrics seem blatantly satanic, and the music is aggressive and primitive. It's unclear if Svaty Vincent is just the vocalist, or if he plays all the stuff himself. To me, it sounds like a live recording, so I'm guessing he's just the vocalist. A track from this 1990 album appeared on the original 'Incredibly Strange Metal' compilation, and rightfully so. I play this disc on my metal show when I want people to call and complain (which is often.)

2 albums by Malicious Onslaught
Here are the two studio albums by Malicious Onslaught, a death metal band from New York formed in 1986. 'Brutal Gore' is the more well-known of the two, but not necessarily in a positive way. Supposedly, this is one of the worst metal albums of all time, though I don't think that's really true. The musicians are perfectly capable, and the band has a competent (if generic) death/grind sound. Most people cite the production as the real problem here. It does indeed sound like the band hired some drugged-out hippy to record the album...effects that have no place in death metal constantly pop up...odd clips and synths...all sorts of pitch-shifted delay and whatnot...kind of like the engineer deliberately ruined the record. I do think, however, the production is what SAVES this album, because it keeps it from being another faceless death/grind album, and sends it into the realm of 'totally fucked.'
What's even stranger is that, upon doing some research, I found their first, lesser-known album 'Rebellious Mayhem.' This one is pretty similar to 'Brutal Gore' in terms of production and playing, which makes the production on THAT album all the more baffling. Why work with what sounds like the SAME ENGINEER when he completely fucked up your first album, too? These two albums are very interesting if you've had any sound-engineering experience. Just listen and think about how some of these decisions got made...very confusing.
Malicious Onslaught - 'Rebellious Mayhem' - 1992
Tracklist:
1. Transgressor
2. Beyond Evil
3. Rebellious Mayhem
4. Emotional Death
5. Extinction of God
6. Speculate the Future
7. Thrashed Black
8. Revenge of the Innocent

1. The Morgue
2. Satanic Killing
3. Blademare

5. Carcassed
6. Brutal Gore
7. Internal Decay

Outsider requests
Hey folks,
Since this blog is actually picking up steam now, and I am an incredibly lazy person when it comes to the internet, I'd like to give you a brief list of some outsider stuff I have but have not uploaded here. Shoot me a message at whimperwarrior@gmail.com or leave me a comment here and I will post your request. Also, if there is anything in the 'outsider' spectrum that you've had difficulty finding that you DON'T see in this list, hit me up as I probably have it somewhere.
-Dwarr discography (not just 'Animals')
-Jerry Solomon ('Past the 20th Century' and 'Into the Woods' or whatever it's called)
-3 tracks by Reji Cat JiimZ's Christ (outsider metal)
-Metal Enterprises stuff (i.e. Killer Fox, Thrash Queen, Godzilla, Kalaschnikov, etc.)
-Jim Shepard/V-3 discography
-Harry Perry's 'Greatest Hits of the Millennium'
-the Svaty Vincent album
-Armand Schaubroeck discography
-Mark Tucker discography
-Dead Horse/Michael Haaga discography
-Konrad's 'Evil' album
...these are just a few things that seem as though they'd be enjoyed by the readers of this blog. I've got lots and lots of stuff so by all means, request away.
Also, I've conducted interviews with the following artists that I'd be happy to re-up:
-Mark Tucker
-Anal Cunt (Seth Putnam and Josh Martin)
-Copernicus
-Kenneth Higney
-Cris Kirkwood (Meat Puppets)
-Bobb Trimble

Incredibly strange metal again...
Since I had so many extra tracks when I made this post that I decided to make ANOTHER 'Incredibly Strange Metal' compilation.
Tracklist:
1. Horse Latitudes - 'Necrophilia'
Basically your typical doom metal band...except with two basses, no guitars, and a completely deranged vocalist.
2. Hatebeak - 'Beak of Putrefaction'
A black metal band fronted by a bird??? Yes, the idea is quite similar to that metalcore band fronted by two pitbulls, but this doesn't sound as bad.
3. Kalaschnikov - 'Kill Your Neighbor'
The Metal Enterprises stuff was pretty heavily covered by the guy who made the original ISM compilation, but this is one of the original groups...NOT the horrible 'follow up' album created by the ME folks. Lo and behold, the original band is just as ridiculous. It sounds like some guys had a few jams they wanted to record, then just improvised lyrics over it. Some of the stupidest shit you'll ever hear.
4. Black Mayonnaise - 'Narcotic Fog'
Gurgling, downtuned 'doom metal' made by a possibly insane guy. Some of their stuff doesn't even really sound like music, but this track is really creepy. I think it's got singing...
5. Brainstorm - 'My Total Vision'
Some kind of a band from Norway...I'm not really sure WHAT kind, though. Sounds like legit Norweigian folk musicians with a black metal guitarist. This is really really weird.
6. Mana Mana - 'Ilmestyskirjan Peto'
Pretty standard doom from Finland, but the singer was a legitimate psychopath. Apparently he went catatonic after the recording of their one and only full length, and eventually committed suicide. The few songs in English have some VERY odd lyrics.
7. Satanic Corpse - 'Blue Rotted Skin of the Corpse'
Similar to the Lullaby track from the last post, but only in theory. They are both weird foreign chicks who make solo recordings and post naked pictures of themselves on metal websites, but Satanic Corpse is much more influenced by black metal than Lullaby. This stuff just sounds incredibly off.
8. Warpigs - 'One Way'
Absolutely ridiculous power metal from Germany. The music is rudimentary at best, but the singer is something else.
9. Striborg - 'Wrapped in a Cacoon Out of Harm's Way'
I've talked about this dude before, but for the record, he's a loner from the Australian outback who makes incredibly creepy black metal. He's been called 'the Jandek of black metal,' and that's not too horrible a comparison, although I'd rather listen to him than Jandek most days.
10. Godorrhoea - 'Studio Demo 1989'
Grindcore from the UK that's so lo-fi you can barely tell what's going on. In fact, I think there is a good deal more than one song here...
11. Dawnfall - 'II'
More 'outsider' black metal. This isn't as enjoyable to listen to as Striborg, but it certainly is interesting. The instruments aren't always in time, which is probably because it's another one-man affair, but there are some creepy sounds here.
12. Victim - 'Framtid med Hopp'
Think this is from Finland...a very early track. This single is worth a lot of money because it's rare, but don't let that trick you...it's godawful. The drummer is the worst part, but the singer just has NO voice...he just kind of yawns the words out. The whole thing is really off-kilter, and is a lot more fun to hear than you might think.
13. Exoskeleton - 'Death Orgasm'
This, however, is absolutely NOT fun to hear. Overly-simplistic sludge-metal, that seems vaguely pretentious. A perfect instance of hipsters trying to make 'artsy' metal and pissing everybody off. Oh well, at least we can all laugh at them together.
14. Heather Leather - 'Child Molester'
Definitely the most fun track here. Straight up, rockin' power metal from an all-girl group, but the lyrics totally rule. Give it a few plays and you'll be chanting 'He's a child molester! Drop dead!' right along with 'em.
15. Eerie Von - 'Madonnica Diabolita'
This guy played in Samhaim and Danzig...not sure if he still does, though. Whatever the case, he's an old accomplice of Glenn Danzig. His solo recordings, mostly done on a 4-track from what I understand, are not really anything like Danzig despite the lyrical content. I'm going to call it minimalist creep-metal. Sometimes he sounds a little more like a rockabilly troubadour than Black Sabbath, but the best tracks are when he's right in the middle.
16. Al-Namrood - Sadam, Ramz Al Btula
Black metal from Saudi Arabia. Kind of has the same feel as the pop music I've heard from Thailand, in that it doesn't really make sense. Yes, it vaguely sounds like Darkthrone, but there are some distinctly middle-eastern melodies here, and it's just an overall interesting take on the genre, probably by another one-man-band.

Incredibly strange metal, version 2.0
This is one of the coolest compilations ever. Too bad ya didn't download it while the link was active. Oh well, ask me if you need a re-up. It's elsewhere on the internet, too.
From what I can gather, the compilation was put out by the guy who runs this website...a great resource for obscure and out-of-print metal. He's a metal record collector, but also, like myself, into the 'outsider' musical spectrum. Luckily, he extends that to his metal collecting, and there's a lot of really wild stuff on that album.
Unfortunately, since its release in the 90's (I think), there hasn't been a 'volume two.' So...I'm going to try puttin' something together for ya, since I know a lot of people come here for the weirdo/outsider stuff. Before we get started, let me say that this isn't associated with the Corroseum folks or Dan Edman, because I don't want them gettin' pissed at me or nothin'....I don't have the time or money to be a record collector, so I just scam off websites and shit. But that doesn't mean you shouldn't hear this stuff.
Some of these songs were dug up by the Corroseum (but well after the release of the original compilation), but most were dug up by me. Here and here are a couple other really good resources for what's been called 'incredibly strange metal' and 'savant metal.'
Since the 00's, the black and doom metal genres have become a great place for finding weird shit...much more so than the 90's, so my cuts try to represent that.
Without any further ado, Bizarro Jerry's Incredibly Strange Metal, Vol. 1 (aka ISM Vol. 2):
Tracklist:
1. Alvin Dahn - 'You're Driving Me Mad'
We start things off with a WFMU outsider classic...don't know much about this guy, but he's an insanely talented metal guitarist. The only problem is that voice...and the lyrics...and pretty much everything else besides the guitar. One of the most enjoyably goofy metal anthems of all time.
2. Reencarnacion - 'Seduccion Y Eucaristia'
This Colombian group is best described as 'progressive metal,' but where they're progressing towards, I'm not sure...The album this comes from is a concept album of sorts, and some songs aren't even remotely metal. The basic premise seems to be South American traditional music mixed with black metal guitars and guttural vocals...pretty much no drums, just weird percussion. I tried not to include a lot of the 'weird for the sake of weird' progressive metal I've found, but this is just so fucked up and misguided.
3. Circle of Ouroborus - 'Nothingness'
Another group that probably set out with a specific idea (in this case, buzzy lo-fi black metal mixed with English post-punk like Joy Division) but executed it in such a messed up way that it transcends its original 'weird' intentions.
4. Lullaby - 'Lucifer'
This one just sounds completely wrong, but the backstory makes it all the better. Supposedly a female South American metal journalist, this chick is blatantly satanic, and spends most of her time writing love letters to Varg from Burzum and other metal elites. Her own music is like a homespun attempt at doom metal with cheesy drum machines and raspy low vocals. She also posts plenty of fucked up vides on youtube and NSFW pictures of herself on her website.
5. Lugubrum - 'De Vette Cuecken'
Really oddball 'farmer metal' from Belgium that features jazz saxophone pretty prominently. The words are supposed to be pretty funny, but I don't understand most of them. It sounds like Burzum if Varg spent all his time listening to Frank Zappa instead of the Cure.
6. Killer Fox - 'Running Blade'
The only Metal Enterprises track included here. There's a really good article on this stuff on the Corroseum website linked above, but just as a brief recap: This German record label used to re-release shitty American metal albums, then use their cast of studio musicians to create fake 'follow-ups' (most of the original bands were long since broken up). Sounds shitty, but you won't even believe the actual music. It's like they tried to make fun of metal music, but were so retarded that you still end up laughing at them instead of with them. It's like the metal version of a Larry the Cable Guy joke.
7. Ahulabrum - 'The Rendlesham Forest Psyop'
Really lo-fi black metal...all their songs are about UFO abductions. Not sure if this guy is legitimately crazy or if it's intentional, but it doesn't matter.
8. Dwarr - 'Heavy Vibrations'
This guy's stuff is pretty well-known as far as 'outsider metal' goes, but it didn't find its way onto the first 'ISM' compilation. Duane Warr recorded several albums in his trailer park home with gear he borrowed from the local high school marching band. Then, he decided what he was doing was pretty evil and burned a lot of his LP's. Sounds like aliens playing old school Sabbath tunes. All his releases are worth hearing, and this stuff is unbelievably awesome and weird.
9. Violent Playground - 'Thrashin' Blues'
Whoever told these folks that thrash metal and blues made a great combo were very wrong.
10. Trifixion - 'Fear, Is All That I See'
Italian prog-metal....but another instance of a band attempting something way over their heads. If you want to make symphonic jazz-death-metal, at least learn how to write songs and play your instruments. The results are very deranged on this track.
11. Varghkoghargasmal - 'The Forest is Whispering'
Self-described 'wooden metal,' this guy apparently wanted to make 'acoustic' black metal....I mean, there's lots of stuff like that, but this IS an electric guitar (albeit played clean.) The playing is very clumsy and poorly recorded, but it's also a pretty cool sound. Kind of like really dark surf-rock?
12. Warning - 'Magic Castle'
The members of this band dressed up like space monsters, and I'm not sure if they intended this to be a heavy metal release, but it sure does have metallic guitars and death-metal style growling vocals. There's some link to the German electronic scene that spawned Kraftwerk, but I'm not sure what it is. This is just totally weird and wrong.
13. Flames of Hell - 'Flames of Hell'
Icelandic teenage metal recorded in a youth center (like YMCA). Rumored to have been ejected from said youth center when the leader heard their lyrics. This came out around the same time as stuff like Venom, and you can hear that influence, but this is soooooo extreme. Especially the vocals. Dude sounds like some dark ages wizard on some other level shit.
14. Lues de Funes - 'Po+me sa obesif'
Completely abnormal prog-grindcore with ridiculous vocals and time signatures left'n'right. Sure, it's intentionally weird, but it's also just weird weird.
15. Ornaments of Agony - 'Huyten Amsgal'
Doom/sludge created by inept musicians that manages to sound completely terrifying instead of completely dumb. Just a big, noisy, angry mess.
16. Shores of Evening - 'Fists in the Air'
Maybe more inept than weird, this still deserves to be on here. I think these guys wanted to be a power-metal band..y'know, dragons and stuff, but EVERYBODY is bad at what they do, especially the vocalist/lyricist. Of course, I wouldn't have put it on here if it wasn't enjoyable to listen to. You'll laugh for sure.
17. Malicious Onslaught - 'Blademare'
Everything I've read about this band describes their production as 'psychedelic,' which I guess is true. It really does sound like the studio engineer wanted to turn this pretty standard death metal release into a Pink Floyd album or something. Guitar solos come out of nowhere, drums have all sorts of weird effects, and the vocals are pitch shifted to bizarre extremes. I'm not sure why, but both their albums sound like this. Seems like they'd ditch the engineer after the first mishap...Regardless, this music is undeniably cool.

So there ya go...I've already got enough music compiled for a second edition, so expect that shit SOON. Also, feel free to share this compilation on your blog/site/message board/whatever...

Striborg - 'Embittered Darkness'
A few whiffens past, I posted a mixtape that pretty prominently featured some of the metal stuff I was getting into (and subsequently playing on Forte.) I did you all an injustice by not posting this entire album then, so I'm doing it now.
If you aren't too familiar with the black metal genre, it's pretty cool. I got into Burzum in high school, then inevitably saw the 'Until the Light Takes Us' film and started listening to other shit. Hipsters have been kind of ruining it lately (what with 'blackgaze' n' all...c'mon guys...does EVERYTHING need a stupid fucking label? It's basically people who like the idea of metal but still have this stigma of it being lame and shit, so they don't really respect it and try to make it like My Bloody Valentine.) but there's still a lot of interesting shit coming out.
Striborg is apparently all one dude, and he's from Tasmania. I heard he lives in the woods like a hermit, but I'm not sure if that's legit. It might as well be. This, to me, is a really good introduction to black metal...it's not quite as 'evil' or whatever as Beherit...definitely stranger than Burzum, but not sissy or French enough for hipster kids to dig it. Actually, it's kinda scary. This fella sounds much more likely to cut some fuckers up than Varg on record.
The music is pretty lo-fi, which is common in the genre, but it's got this weird, organic, but somewhat hollow feeling...I dunno...I listened to it while walking around in the woods (like you're supposed to) and I was feeling it for about half the record, then got too creeped out and went home.
Tracklist:
1. Protagonist of Misanthropic Virtues
2. Wrapped in a Cocoon out of Harm's Way
3. Race of Apathy
4. In the Eerie Pre-Dawn Silence of the Cold
5. Embittered Darkness
6. Digging a Ditch to Die In
NOTE: The actual CD version of this includes the 'Isle De Morts' EP, which isn't as impressive at all. Really kind of subpar traditional black metal. Sorry if you're a completist, but that's the world of free music sharing. I liked his album 'Perceiving the World with Hate' much better than the 'Isle' EP...more similar to this stuff.

The Demonseeds - 'Knee Deep in Hell's Grasp' plus Dead Horse EPs
Alright, sorry for this one being in .wma format...I hate that shit, but I'm at work and there's no iTunes, so I had to import the CD this way.
That being said, it's safe to say you're not going to find this album anywhere else. The CD is long out of print, and I scoured the internet for an upload of it to no avail. Unfortunate, because this shit rocks hard.
Longtime readers are probably familiar with Dead Horse and how much I love them, so it shouldn't be that surprising that I spent an afternoon finding a used copy of The Demonseeds' lone album 'Knee Deep in Hell's Grasp' on eBay.
The Demonseeds were Dead Horse frontman Michael Haaga's 2nd big project. I think he played bass on a Superjoint Ritual album and the following tour before, but this release finds him writing his own songs again.
I don't have a copy of his 2005 solo release 'The Plus and Minus Show' to put up, but suffice to say it's not very heavy. It's more like Pixies/grunge-type rock music, and is really really really good. The Demonseeds are like a step in between that and the goofy thrash-punk of Dead Horse. Basically, that means it's a perfect Haaga release. It's melodic and catchy with Haaga's trademark defeatist lyrics, but you can tell he took some cues from roommate/bandmate Phil Anselmo and his Down affiliates (note: just for the sake of clarity, I mean his Superjoint Ritual bandmates...Anselmo isn't on this release.)
If you like sludgy stoner stuff like Kyuss, Down, and Sleep, you'll definitely dig this, but to me it's a more enjoyable listen. Not to say I don't love Sleep, I'm just a sucker for a good pop song, which Haaga delivers on almost every track. As a side note, check out the awesomely reimagined version of the Dead Horse track 'Every God for Himself.'
I'm also posting the two final Dead Horse EPs which followed the 'Peaceful Death' album because they're not too easy to find either. The first one, 'Feed Me,' was the final Dead Horse release featuring Haaga. They did one last EP, 'Boil(ing),' with a different singer, then changed their name to Pasadena Napalm Division with basically the same lineup.

V.A. - 'Girls and Boys - Helge's '87'
Remember a while back when I played a bunch of 1980's kid-metal on the Obscuro radio program?
Well, now you can have the whole thing. I realized that, 2 years later, STILL nobody has this shit up on the internet really. I had to dig through Soulseek to find my copy. I'm making it easier on you. The teenage stuff on the second side really isn't that great...just your run-of-the-mill high school speed metal/punk stuff that was probably everywhere in '87...but god damn are all the kid bands great. The Pink Babycats and Secret Metal tracks are both standouts, but really the whole first side is awesome.
Basically, it sounds like a bunch of 'cool' metal dads forced their kids into writing 'tough' sounding music (which is honestly probably how it went down for this record...it's apparently a benefit record for some youth club called Helge's) but the toughest stuff these kids probably know about are boogers and snakes. At the very least, it's a must-have in any 'outsider' metal collection, if anybody's got one of those (besides me.)
Oh yeah, it's Finnish, so expect a lot of broken English and lyrical weirdness. Also, a few songs are entirely in Finnish.
Tracklist:
1. Galaxy - Se Pa Mig
2. Pink Babycats - The Hunting
3. Boyhunters - Boys
4. Zero Zone - Good
5. Mix Music - Let's Go

Incredibly Strange Metal, Vol. 1
Here's a compilation that appeared on the internet a while back. I think it was put together by these folks...
It's exactly what the title says...loads of weird, fucked-up, misguided metal music. It turned me on to a lot of the stranger stuff that appears on Forte. But, we're in dire need of a volume two (at least I think so.) This compilation only scratches the surface of the totally demented metal that's out there. Sooo, my goal is to put together a vol. 2 (possibly a vol. 3) in the next couple of weeks, and maybe even send it to the fellas who made the original.
VA - Incredibly Strange Metal Vol. 1, 20??
Tracklist:
1. Oblachnyj Kraj - Sazhaj Korneplody, Vyrschlvaj Luk!
3. Damien Storm - Realms of Destiny (Edit)
4. The Crisis - Kolahal Ma
5. The Crisis - Maya Boki Aau
6. Kuster - All a Live
7. Kuster - Love a Bit
8. Exmortes - Forced to Be Silent
9. Exmortes - Creed of Eternal
10. Drakar - Tunelem Zpatky
11. Morsure - No Moral
12. Black Hole - Blind Men and Occult Forces
13. The Runaways - S-P-E-E-D-M-E-T-A-L
14. Legion - Hold On
15. Torn Flesh - Torn Flesh (Crux of the Mosh)
16. Torn Flesh - Gay Rights/Man's Best Friend (Intro)
17. Svaty Vincent - Krucifix
18. Secret Metal - The Cop
19. Lester Maddox - Egypt (The Chains are Off)
20. Parabellum - Madre Muerte
Apparently I'm missing track 2?? Oh well, it's just another Damien Storm song...

Lullaby - 'My Master Lucifer'
Here's an odd one. This might make an appearance on the upcoming 'Incredibly Strange Metal, Vol. 2' compilation I'm trying to put together. More about this in the next post.Basically, this is a Brazilian woman who (I think?) is some sort of metal music journalist. She also makes completely nuts 'black metal.' I say 'black metal' because, although this is listed as her primary influence, the music is more like demented doom than anything. The most obvious point of reference would be the Dwarr stuff I put up a while back, except with even stranger vocals. I don't really know what to say about them. Maybe if the singer from Exmortes was a girl...you'll have to hear this one to see what I mean. Oh yeah, she's got a website.
Lullaby - My Master Lucifer, 1993
Tracklist:
1. Shout of the Death
2. My Master Lucifer
3. You Liar
4. Welcome Lucifer
5. Lilith
6. Lucifer
7. In the Name of the Devil
8. Supreme Majesty
9. Symphony of the Death
So, obviously, she really likes Lucifer...and death.

Wow, so I kinda stopped posting here for about a month....I'm just posting this past week's radio programs because there were a lotta half-assed ones in-between. Allllllright, on to Forte. I had lots of new stuff built up for this week, including a brand new release by legendary doom-metallers Pentagram. This album is special because it's the reunion of the guitarist and the vocalist or something. I dunno. Pentagram changes members like most people change underwear. I just know this is the most rockingest shit I've heard these fellas do in a long time. Some of this album rivals mid-80's stuff even. It doesn't come close to the 60's and 70's demos, but what does? Anyhow, the album is called 'Last Rites' and I would strongly advise you to pick it up.

...and lastly, I've finally got another download for y'all.
It's not very often that I find an album that's a) really cool and b) so goddamn obscure that I can't even find it. So, to start off, I was watching a b-grade science fiction film called 'Bad Channels' (it's a Full Moon pictures...more on this in the weeks to come, because I'm hopefully going to write an article comparing Full Moon with Troma Studios). The plot largely involves music, and there were a couple of what I would call music videos throughout the movie. One of these was by the rather unfortunately-named group Sykotik Sinfoney. Okay, so anybody in their right mind would probably see this band name and not even give them the time of day. But, in this case, I saw/heard them before reading the credits and finding out who they were.
I figured it would be something easy to go download, but surprisingly, there is very little info on these guys online. They were 'ahead of their time,' according to their own crappy homepage, and they have recently released a compilation of all their recordings called 'Eargasm,' which I am bringing to you now. Apparently they didn't have any proper releases in their heyday (the early '90's) aside from the 'Bad Channels' soundtrack.
So then. On to the music. The first thing I thought, upon seeing these guys decked out in goofy costumes and playing a combo of thrash, funk, circus and hair metal, was that they were a poor man's Mr. Bungle. The lyrics are often laughably bad, and the tempo/time changes are executed kinda clumsily, but goddamn, these guys actually write some pretty good tunes. Plus, if I'm not mistaken, these recordings are mostly from the late 80's/1990, and Mr. Bungle's first proper LP wasn't released until '91 or '92. Sooooo, either these fellas were big on local Eureka, CA bands, or they just happened to be influenced by the same groups that influenced Bungle (Oingo Boingo is a definite point of reference, as is early Chili Peppers, Frank Zappa, Slayer, GWAR, Devo, Funkadelic and Pantera). Whatever the case, this compilation is definitely worth a spin, and there was an alt-metal group called D.M.T. on the 'Bad Channels' soundtrack that was pretty decent, too. No luck finding their album, however.

Forte 20, featuring Epitaph's EP 'These Rotten Remains'
Couldn't find much info on these guys...apparently they're from Illinois. The EP is kind of like what a thrash metal album played by Jesus Lizard or Shellac might sound like. Odd, jerky rhythms, buzzsaw guitars, and a singer who really doesn't sound like a thrash vocalist at all. I dunno. I thought it was kinda neat, and it was only a 4-song EP, so I played the whole thing. Also of note was the fact that I got a shit-ton of requests in the last half of the show.podcast.

Finally! Another download!
Here we go. I played a cut off this on the Alternate Universe Metal Program. A while back, I played one of Duane Warr's albums on Obscuro! He plays all the instruments on his records, and has a style that's kind of like a darker, weirder Black Sabbath. Legend has it that, after having a religious experience, Duane disowned his older albums for a while (he did NOT burn all the copies like some people say) but now he seems pretty cool with them (a couple have been re-released on Drag City.) This is one of his more recent outings (I think '97 but I'm not sure,) and it IS a pretty religious-themed record, but don't let that stop you from checking this one out. This is even noisier than 1986's 'Animals.' For God's sake, give this man your money.Dwarr - 'Times of Terror'

Bizarro Jerry's Alternate Universe Metal Program (aka Forte 14)
This one is for the 3, maybe 4 folks who've told me they miss the Obscuro! radio show. I played pretty much all the insane, deranged, twisted heavy metal I've found doing the show (and some cuts from the Obscuro! days, too) and put them into one 3-hour block of totally fucked radio. Okay, so I WAS about half an hour late because Coma Nova was playing a house party, but still...2 and a half hours of this stuff is probably more than enough. You've got your retarded-bad basement demos, misguided attempts at heavy metal by record executives, totally satanic black metal made by loner dudes in the woods, and every other kind of heavy shit you never knew existed. I am thinking about bringing back Obscuro! one of these weeks for a three-hour block in Forte's place once I get enough new weird stuff collected. We'll see.Get that podcast, fella.

Playlist for 10-1-10...with a mini-tribute to song-poem dude Rodd Keith

I never really thought the whole song-poem thing was that cool...I mean, granted, it's kind of funny to hear amateur poetry over ill-advised 'rock' music, but I wouldn't really sit down and listen to the stuff. Rodd Keith seems to have created the best of these, putting his all into the music and doing a really wide range of styles (although maybe that was due to his rampant drug use)...so, I did a little featurette on him because it's weird stuff and that's what I do. I also played a side-long jam by an anti-government German band that apparently was pretty offensive to all 1 of the people who spoke German and were listening.
Get you the podcast.

Crazy bullshit-metal for y'all...
I don't know why more people interested in 'oddball' music don't explore the genre of metal at all. A lot of the websites i dig up my strangeness from don't seem to have any interest in it at all. Luckily, there are a few people out there unearthing the stuff, namely The Corroseum.
For such an 'outcast' genre of music (at least I think so...the majority of people won't have anything to do with metal or metalheads, and 'pure' genres like hardcore punk that helped spawn metal have completely disowned it) you'd think that the metal weirdos and outcasts would be pretty fucked, huh? Exactly.
Why am I telling you this? Mostly because this week's program will feature so-called 'Incredibly Strange Metal.' I did a mini-segment on this a while back, but now I've collected enough to fill a whole 2-hour show!
In celebration of this, I give you Killer Fox's 1990 album "Orgasm of Death."
First of all, what the fuck is up with that cover? Check out the article on The Corroseum for the full story, but here's a summary: A German record label called Metal Enterprises released a bunch of albums by REALLY shitty bands in the late 80's, then did 'fake' follow-ups with a studio band and whoever was around to act obnoxious (after most of the original groups had disbanded or been killed, in the case of Killer Fox, in auto accidents). Why? Probably because it was funny, and to make a few quick bucks. This is pretty standard(?) money-grubbing, I guess (some labels in the 70's were known for doing this, too) but the music is what's really interesting.
I really can't describe it...something like retarded parody-metal taken to a fucking ridiculous extreme. You'll just have to hear it...
Artist: Killer Fox
Title: Orgasm of Death
Tracklist:
1. Guardians
2. Vixen of Slaughter
3. Slayer
4. Dark Star
5. Cataracts of Horror
6. Running Blade
7. The Sign
8. Seventh Silence
9. Branded
10. Killer Fox
11. Pool of Blood
12. Monster Surgeons
13. Robo Return
14. Lay it Down

What could top that, right? Let's see...
-MORE Metal Enterprises fake-albums than you'd ever want to hear
-Finnish kid-metal from the 80's
-Psychotic basement-metal from various countries and styles
-Shaggs-like girl-metal with songs like 'The Child Molester'
-White-power country-doom metal with more songs about dragons and fairies than white power...(don't worry...I'm not gonna play the whopping one white-power tune on the album...I ain't down with that shit and it's not even very good)
-Bizarre Russian opera-folk-metal
-Geez, do you really need another reason to listen?
