Even MORE downloads...
More of my own shit...this one's pretty old. Jim Jones Catering Service was probably the 3rd or 4th 'real' band I was ever involved in. I wrote most of the music and lyrics for our tunes, and it was a chaotic blend of Nirvana-ish rock, math-rock time signatures, and free-jazz saxophone...all with catchy choruses and 3-part dude vocals. I dunno, that's how it was described to me more than once, anyhow. I'm not sure if everybody wants me using full names, but the lineup (for this record) was as follows:
Kellen - Drums
Matt - Saxophone/Vocals
Me - Guitar/Vocals
Kyle - Guitar/Vocals
Chris - Bass
Tom - Keyboards/Vocals
although our bassist from conception until about 2 months before this album was a dude named Boe. Not to get into too much detail, but we played for about 3-4 years, cutting 2 EPs and 1 full length album all ourselves before deciding to do a 'studio' LP with Mark Larmee at Broadside Productions. Probably the best-sounding recordings I've ever played on.
The music (save saxophone and keyboards) was recorded live, mostly in 2-3 takes (sometimes less). If I remember correctly, we tracked to tape (1/2"???) and then Mark mixed and mastered the whole thing in Pro-Tools.
The catch? We broke up about a week before the masters came back to us, and never did a damn thing with this record. Oh well.

Bizarro Jerry's Kutout Bin Klassics, Vol. 1
I promised more downloads, and here they are. Most people interested in music are familiar with the cutout bin--that area of the record store where the albums nobody wants are stacked with little slits in the corners so you know it's a piece of shit (in theory). However, there are always a few winners, which is what I'll be covering in this series. Basically, albums that nobody really wants to hear.
First up is Orange 9mm's 1997 album 'Tragic.' Say what you will about rap metal and idiotic acts like Limp Bizkit, but the idea isn't a bad one. Most rappers like their music to have low bass tones that vibrate car speakers. Most metal bands like their songs to have...well, low tones that vibrate speakers. Some of the best rap music is violent and angry, as is some of the best metal music. However, for some reason, very few acts seem to be able to get the sound right. Rage Against the Machine comes to mind, as do the Deftones (although they don't feature much rapping), and even groups like Faith No More.
To me, Orange 9mm have created quite possibly the best rap-metal album of all time with 'Tragic.' Sure, it's not perfect--it has a LOT of filler, and many songs feature distorted-to-shit vocals and odd production techniques, but the songs are solid and the dude can fucking sing. How about that?
Anyways, give it a play, see what you think. I like all kinds of music (if you can't tell from the show itself) and can appreciate when a band gets their sound right, even if it's not my thing. That's not the case here, though. I'll bump this shit like nobody's business.
Orange 9mm - 'Tragic'
Tracklist:
1. Fire in the Hole
2. Tragic
3. 7
4. Gun to Your Head
5. Stick Shift
6. Dead in the Water
7. Method
8. Crowd Control
9. Muted
10. Take You Away
11. Failure
12. Feel it
13. Kiss it Goodbye

Playlist for 6-18-10, "Wackos Speak Louder than Words"
You may remember last year when I did several 'theme shows' on the program. Well, it's that time again, and I've got some new (and exciting) themes to cover this time around. Kicking off this chapter is last week's podcast, 'Wackos Speak Louder than Words,' 2 hours of bizarre instrumental music that is truly beyond description. Some of the artists have been played before, while others are new to you and me.
This will continue next week, as tonight will be the first time ever I won't be on the air bringing you the weirdness. This is because I STILL haven't seen the Melvins live enough, and they're coming to Detroit.
Anyhow, download the podcast here.

That's it...more downloads soon. I'm not sure if it'll be my own stuff or something else yet...

Playlist for 6-11-10...lots of long, jam-filled tracks for some reason. Also, PAWN's album 'Everything' available for download
Another week, another podcast...
Check it.
Playlist:
And...because I wanted to eventually follow up on my previous post of Logic Bomb's demos, here is the full-length 'Everything' recorded by Marc Keirns' later K-zoo band PAWN. This stuff is a lot more grunge-based (and louder)...I like it better, but I had to start from the beginning.
Album: 'Everything' by PAWN
Description: Mid-90's Kalamazoo/Galesburg grunge music...lots of drugs, hate, violence...similar to Logic Bomb but more 'together' and with better songs (I think.) Some songs are VERY lo-fidelity, while others sound pretty clean. MP3's are really low quality, too, but that's because the only place I could find most of these tracks was an abandoned SoundClick page for these guys...I don't know anybody who has a copy of the actual album (I used to years ago), but I don't remember it sounding any better than these versions.
Tracklist:
1. Liar
2. Closely Shaven Genitalia
3. Unpolished
4. Ten Sea Sees
5. Pedophile
6. NRL
7. Valentine's Day Massacre
8. Our Apathenter

Old Kalamazoo rock band demos...check it
I promised some downloads, so here's this:
Logic Bomb was apparently one of the many early-90's alt-rock bands from K-zoo that almost made it big, but had things fucked up somehow. I never got a chance to see them play, but basically the same band members formed a group called PAWN (Parental Authorities' Worst Nightmare) around 95-96. I might upload their stuff here, too.
I have no idea what the fuck these guys are doing now, although I tried to get in contact with them a while back for booking a show with no luck. Does anybody know what the hell?
Anyhow...these tracks aren't arranged in any particular order, but this file's got:
Angst of a Redneck Town
Did You Say Zigelmorph?
Furry White Pussy
Hate Me, Kill Me
Homecoming King
Joy Curve
Little Happy Thing
Mr. Sunshine
Scum
T on YS gr AND ma
The Scent of Afterbirth
Third Planet from the Sun
Voyage
Voyage (remix)
DOWNLOAD
The sound kind of reminds me of a more quaaluded-out Nirvana with sloppier musicianship and darker (if you can believe it) lyrics. Lots of drugs, hate, violence, etc.
We used to go see these guys at our community hall all the time, so hearing all this stuff is definitely a trip down memory lane.
