You'll hear oddball religious nonsense, vanity recordings made by reality TV stars, private press stoner sludge, and lots of mind-fuck ambient stuff. Anyhow. See for yourself. It's pretty cool.

Obscuro! Mixtape #14...'fucked.'
That title should clue you in....this is a trip to the weirdo side. Fans of the Trash Radio and Obscuro programs will definitely want to check this one out. Basically, I went digging in the Obscuro! archives and came up with the strangest shit I could find, that I hadn't yet played to death on the radio. Some of this stuff never even made it into radio programs because I just forgot about it or whatever...ran out of time...y'know. So, it was kind of surprising to find so much bizarre stuff.

'Former Fetus - A Rock Opera'
More downloadable weirdness for ya....
...By the way...at least some of the older links should work now...made my Rapidshare stuff public again since those dick-biters made it private. New links will be 4shared, which seems to be the best free file-sharing site out there now...ya might have to make an account, but it's worth it.
On to today's release:
I can't find any info on this whatsoever. Sorry. I must've found it from somebody's music blog years back, because I have it, and it exists, but beyond that, I have no idea. I remember the description on whatever site I got it from called it 'Neil Young meets hardcore,' which is semi-accurate...it's got some country-rock twang, and it's definitely punk rock, but that leaves out the glaring fact that it's a religious rock opera against abortion, probably made by one guy, which puts it squarely in the realm of OUTSIDER MUSIC, which I know is why y'all come here.
I think this came out sometime in the mid-90's...96 maybe? Sounds like these guys/guy listened to a LOT of Minutemen/Meat Puppets/Husker Du 80's psych-punk stuff. The singing especially sounds like Husker Du, and the concept lyrics remind me of 'Zen Arcade' a bit, but there's definitely something off here....I mean, generally speaking, most punks AREN'T pro-lifers, but the lyrics are so so so angry, it's almost ridiculous.
Anyhow. Give it a shot. It's a very creative, sloppy, inventive punk record if nothing else.
'Former Fetus - A Rock Opera'
Tracklist:
1. Overture
2. Former Fetus
3. I'm Free
4. Live and Nesting
5. Under the Bridge
6. Twilight Zone
7. I'm a Mom
8. Love
9. After the Rapture
10. Acoustic Nerve
11. Former Fetus (reprise)
DOWNLOAD
PS - A reader linked me to his site, and now I'm linking YOU to it:
Bleeding Skull film reviews
Apparently a treasure trove of no-budget 80's trash films, which is something I am quite fond of. If you thought 'Street Trash' or 'Slime City' were too high-budget, check out some of these flicks. I already know I'm going to be wasting a fair amount of time looking these releases up.

Playlist for 11-20-09, "The Lost Years of Alex Chilton and Religious Curiosities"

Third in a series of 'theme shows,' where I break down all the music I play on the program into nice, neat little boxes. This one was kinda different, since half the program focused on one musician. That said, Alex Chilton is basically a genre all his own. Since his first and only hit single at the age of 16 with the Box Tops (the excellent tune "The Letter,") he has influenced countless alternative rock and 60's throwback groups with Big Star and then destroyed all traces of that influence with his solo career.
More or less, these records feature a band of musicians that probably first heard the tunes a day before recording them (if at all,) Chilton's "I-don't-give-a-fuck" mentality regarding quality, and countless covers of obscure blues tunes. Aside from that, he developed a habit of pissing people off on purpose during this part of his career, as is evident in tunes like "Riding Through the Reich," and scummily deranged covers of his own beloved discography.
Basically, he's my hero, so I devoted an entire hour to these rarely-heard recordings. Of course, I played a few later Big Star tunes because those are basically the same type of thing.
