Obscuro! Mixtape #8...'Garbage can full of funk'

Yup...these are going up here now....seems easier than the zip file thing. This is the most intricate mixtape I've made for the blog yet. The last one I did, which was the first to be actually a coherent piece rather than a collection of songs, was PRETTY labor-intensive, but this one was even more so.

This time around, it's a 45-minute collection of lo-fi rap music, from the Memphis sound to the east coast to the west coast. I guess it's pretty heavy on the Memphis stuff, but that shit is GOOD.

Dig it:

Lil Yo - 'Youngsta's On a Come Up'

Here's a weird one...this kid apparently grew up to be Yo Gotti, who's a pretty well-respected rapper these days. Back in 93/94(?) however, he was doin' that lo-fi creep sound that Three 6 Mafia is so famous for. The weird thing about this tape (I'm assuming it was originally a tape release) is that it almost has a vaporwave/James Ferraro quality to the music. It's very electronic and amateurish. I'm not sure who made the beats, but it definitely wasn't no DJ Paul. The whole vibe is just very weird....you've got this like 12 year old kid rapping about murder over these way-too-syrupped-out beats. More or less, it's right up my alley, and it doesn't appear to be anywhere on the internet aside from the message board I got it off, so here it izzz for ya.

Rapidshare suxxx

Sorry guys...but Rapidshare is really starting to suck. Apparently it doesn't let anybody download the stuff I put up there...so I'm thinking I've 'exhausted my public traffic' as they like to say.

Links from now on will be 4Shared, which hasn't fucked me around too much. Only thing is, I had trouble downloading files with 4Shared before I made an account, so, ya might have to just enter a quick e-mail/login name. TRUST ME, it's worth it. Half the time, if I want something, I just type 'bla bla bla 4 shared' into google and find it instantly. It's a Mediafire for 2013, so to speak.

Next week is all rap/hip hop...with a couple electro-funk songs.

Shameless self promotion again...

For those who are new to the blog, I am, above all else, a musician. I listen to a lot of music, which is why I keep doing this website, but most of my time is spent writing and recording my own stuff.

That being said, I've just released my first official full-length under the name The HATE Noise. Previously, I'd been in a band called Coma Nova that played around Kalamazoo/West Michigan a lot, but we split, and I did my own thing. This particular album was mostly recorded on cassette 4-track with me playing everything, and I guess was influenced by Guided By Voices, 60's surf music and The Cure, since that's what I was listening to. I tried to keep a strong 'old-timey' vibe...dunno....regardless, I think some of you that read this blog would dig it.

Here it is, in pay-what-you-like downloadable format on my Bandcamp page.

If you dig my stuff, I've got like 5 albums-worth of stuff available for free on WFMU's Free Music Archive.

...that's my plug...we're working on a rap/hip hop project, so I'll plug that in a couple months here....

Bizarro Jerry's Trash Radio, Vol. 11

Alriiiiiiiiiiight, here's last week's edition of Trash Radio. Lots of funk, soul, old school rap, and electro-weirdness. The episode that'll be on in about 10 minutes is similar material. Although it's no less good. Listen. WIDR. I actually tried to line up songs like a big megamix, so quite a few of the tracks were pitch-shifted live. Deal with it, homies.

Trash Radio - comin' back again

Yup, bored with heavy metal already...so that means this week's show will be Trash Radio instead. I've been rockin' a lot of old soul and funk, as well as 80's rap, so that'll probably make up the bulk of the podcast. As always, I'll put it on Mixcloud once I get it recorded n' all, but tune in at widrfm.org if you wanna catch it live Friday night...11 pm.
