Even though I'm focusing on my movie blog right now, I had to come back with some scary albums for Halloween. Some of these are actually kind of frightening, but most are just silly. They're all out of the Obscuro! radio program vaults, from my numerous Halloween theme shows.
1. Anton LaVey - 'Strange Music' EP
The founder of the Satanic Church (and author of the Satanic Bible) is also, hilariously, fairly proficient on the pipe organ. He has another album of mostly instrumental stuff called 'The Devil Takes a Holiday,' and it's pretty funny to me that this dude obviously can poke fun at himself. Anyhow, the majority of these tunes are his versions on old standards (i.e. 'Gloomy Sunday.') It's not great, but it's totally the type of thing you can throw on at a Halloween party.
2. Lucifer - 'Black Mass'
Electronic music pioneer Mort Garson did this album under the Satanic pseudonym, presumably because it's darker music than his other stuff. If you like the horror-movie synth soundtracks of the 80's, or the library music stuff I've posted here, you'll probably dig this. I did feature it in a previous Halloween post, but the blog I linked to for a download is apparently long-gone, so I re-uploaded it myself.
3. The Elm Street Group - 'Freddy's Greatest Hits'
Of all the dumbed-down horror movie merchandise to come out of the 80's ('Toxic Crusaders,' anyone?) this might take the cake for stupidest. Some no-name studio musicians concocted these run-of-the-mill synth-pop tunes (many of which are covers of 50's and 60's novelty songs) and somehow got Robert Englund (aka Freddy Krueger) to lend his voice to them. It's all pretty bad, but 'Do The Freddy' at least has novelty appeal. I guess by '87, the 'Nightmare on Elm Street' franchise was pretty much a joke anyways.
4. Moevot - 'Ézléýfbdréhtr Vépréùb Zùérfl Màzàgvàtre Érbbédréà'
Okay, THIS is genuinely scary. An anonymous 'black metal' musician, whose music sounds more like recordings from inside a long-buried tomb than actual metal. I guess it's not to dissimilar from the ambient tracks on Burzum albums, just....way more poorly recorded. And it's got these weird groaning vocals that sound like a ghost. I dunno. It's fascinating, if nothing else.
Happy Halloween, y'all....

Society's Fault 11-1-13 SPOOKY SHOW #2
Even FURTHER past the holiday, here's the second Halloween show we did. This one, in my opinion, might be even better. So, if you're still in the mood for some scary shit, check it out...otherwise, the next podcast will be back to the regs.

Society's Fault 10-25-13 SPOOKY SHOW #1
Welllll, it's a little late, but DEAL WITH IT. Here's the Halloween edition of Society's Fault. We actually had so much spooky material that it turned into two shows, the second of which you will hear next week. This one's got classics like the obvious 'Halloween' by Dead Kennedys, and some deep cuts like 'Ow, My Finger!' by the Screamin' Mee-Mees...also, PLENTY of horror movie clips and trailers, and satanic nonsense! Enjoy...if you DARE!

Rudimentary Peni - 'Death Church'
When I re-started the blog, this album was the first thing I posted. I had just gotten into Rudimentary Peni, and the 'Pope Adrian' album in particular. But, even folks I know who are REAL into punk don't know these guys at all, which is sad...probably only second to Minutemen as far as punk bands go for me...Plus, it's weird. About as weird as music can get, really. 'Death Church' is still very firmly rooted in punk rock...they didn't REALLY take off for the stratosphere until 'Cacophony,' the like 50-song tribute to H.P. Lovecraft, but you'd still be hard-pressed not to notice how odd this disc is.
The frontman Nick Blinko is a very odd dude, apparently suffering from schizoaffective disorder. He makes really intense illustrations and writes most of the abstract lyrics. He's got a book that you should buy. Totally cool Lovecraft-meets-anarchist-punk stuff...
Tracklist:
1. 1/4 Dead
2. Blissful Myth
3. The Psycho Squat
4. Rotten to the Core
5. Poppycock
6. Cosmic Hearse
7. The Cloud Song
8. Vampire State Building
9. Blasphemy Squad
10. When You Are a Martian Church
11. Pig in a Blanket
12. Inside
13. Nothing But a Nightmare
14. Flesh Crucifix
15. Slimy Member
16. Love is Not
17. Radio Schizo
18. Happy Farm
19. Alice Crucifies the Paedophiles
20. Army of Jesus
21. Dutchmen

135 greatest proto-punk songs, part 3
...should be able to finish up this mega-post today since I have fuck-all to do at work. Here's the third 27-song installment of the 135 greatest proto-punk songs (according to me.)
part 1
part 2
This one's kinda similar to the 'speed' post, except these bands' abrasive and uncompromising sounds were influenced more by anger than drugs...hence the title.
135 GREATEST VOL. 3 - Anger
1. Screamin' Jay Hawkins - I Put a Spell on You
2. Big Star - Thank You Friends
3. Michael Yonkers Band - Boy in the Sandbox
4. Rotomagus - Fightin' Cock
5. Bob Thompson and Doug Snyder - Hit and Run
6. Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention - Trouble Every Day
7. The Fugs - CIA Man
8. Question Mark and the Mysterians - 96 Tears
9. electric eels - Accident
10. The Kinks - Brainwashed
11. Nihilist Spasm Band - Destroy the Nations
12. Death - Keep On Knocking
13. The Dogs - X-Ray Me, Baby
14. Love - Seven and Seven Is
15. Memphis Goons - Indian Giver
16. The Beatles - Helter Skelter
17. Saint Anthony's Fyre - Get Off
18. The Phantom - Love Me
19. David Peel and the Lower East Side - Here Comes a Cop
20. Crushed Butler - It's My Life
21. Oliver - Cat and the Rat
22. Simply Saucer - Bullet Proof Nothing
23. Creedence Clearwater Revival - Commotion
24. Ozzie - I'm So Stupid
25. Roger Rubin and Rotfree Anderson - Tribute to Hypocrites
26. Chico Magnetic Band - Cross Town Traffic
27. Alice Cooper - I'm Eighteen
***RE-UPLOADED 5/24/14***

NOTES:
Another nice mix of the standards (Jay Hawkins, Kinks, Alice Cooper) and the oddball shit (Ozzie, Roger Rubin, Chico Magnetic). Some people might have some qualms with my inclusion of 'Helter Skelter,' which I guess is more proto-metal than anything, but I dare you to find a John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band song that's better than this one. Also, if you don't see that Creedence is proto-punk, then I guess the Minutemen aren't punk. Something interesting is that the Bob Thompson and Doug Snyder album was recorded immediately after the two saw the Stooges play live.

Fuckin' up yer halloween part 1
I pretty much hate holidays, but here's some Halloween music anyhow.
I did this last year, too.
1. Black Widow - 'Sacrifice'
A whole prog-rock album about the devil and sacrifices and all things of that nature. The songs are surprisingly good, especially 'Come to the Sabbat.' You can download this fucker right here, because I put it up in March.
2. Type O Negative - 'Bloody Kisses'
Even though Peter Steele is dead, he's still scaring new listeners with this album all the time. I think that was supposed to be funny. Anyhow, it's a classic of the 'gothic metal' genre, and an all-around good listen. Check out the video for 'Black No. 1' here.
3. C.A. Quintet - 'Trip thru Hell'
Apparently, a soundtrack for what the title would indicate. I'm not sure if I'm buying that, but there are enough goofy sound effects to at least make this a Halloween Party disc. Plus, it's psychedelic. Who doesn't like Halloween more when it's psychedelic? Download the whole thing from this fine music blog.
4. Lucifer - 'Black Mass'
This album was created by one Mort Garson as an electronic representation of what a black mass probably sounds like. This was in the early days of synthesizers (1973 or something) so it's pretty primitive-sounding, but he gets some really odd fuckin' sounds out of his Moog. If you've ever wondered why some people are really into old Moog music, check out this record. Another good 'Halloween Party' release that's not super loud or super offensive. Download it HERE if you're interested.
5. Kalaschnikov - 'The Torture Never Stops'
Daffy fuckin' German metal that sounds like it was composed in three hours. Check out this post to see a little more about the Metal Enterprises record label and how they love fucking metalheads out of $15 bucks here and there. Let's put it this way: This SOUNDS like fake-Halloween-metal. Like the soundtrack to some 1990's teenage monster flick where the kids have to stop an evil spirit or some such bullshit. It's that goofy. Just look at the song titles (when you download it, that is...you're not likely to find this one anywhere but here!) and the album cover. The only positive thing I can say about this album is that you WILL have a good time listening to it.
I'll be doin' a wicked-scary Forte in a couple weeks (or is it a week? I dunno), so tune in for that.
